In 2020, as India grappled with a nationwide lockdown, Pankaj Shrivastav found himself at a crossroads. Working as a marketer in the pharmaceutical machine manufacturing industry, Pankaj’s job wasn’t providing the stability he needed. Inspired by the growing demand for essential medical supplies, Pankaj discerned an opportunity and ventured into a new business, initially named Shree Equipment.

The early days were fraught with challenges. The business faced numerous hurdles, leading to a temporary halt. Undeterred, Pankaj began exploring online markets for potential clients. Around this time, his brother, Ravi Shrivastav, who had a background as a contractor in pharmaceutical machinery, shared Pankaj’s entrepreneurial spirit. The brothers often discussed their dreams of starting something significant, fueling each other’s determination to succeed.
Pankaj shared his experiences and insights with Ravi, and together, they envisioned a company that could not only manufacture quality products but also revolutionize the market. They decided to establish a business from scratch, involving everyone in the decision-making process to ensure they built a company that valued all suggestions. This inclusive approach fostered a strong sense of teamwork and innovation.
They named their venture Shailmi Tech and planned to manufacture a wide range of products. From tanks ranging from 0.5 liters to 5000 liters to stainless steel laboratory equipment such as mugs, scoops, and trolleys, they aimed to cover various needs. Additionally, they specialized in producing other stainless steel equipment, including tables, chairs, and cupboards, ensuring a comprehensive product portfolio.
To bring their vision to life, they involved Vivek Shrivastav, Pankaj’s son, who was a digital marketer, Engineer and web developer with good knowledge of accounting. Vivek designed the company logo, created document formats, and developed the first version of the website. Despite continuing their previous jobs, Pankaj and Vivek managed to secure some clients for small projects, laying the groundwork for future growth.
One significant opportunity came when they received a third-party project for buffing work. Although they successfully presented a sample, they couldn’t complete the work due to a lack of equipment. This setback didn’t deter them. They continued to get small projects but struggled due to insufficient time, equipment, and lack of a proper workspace. Each challenge, however, taught them valuable lessons and strengthened their resolve.
Realizing the need for a proper establishment, Pankaj and Ravi started looking for a factory space to rent. They secured a place, prepared the rental agreement, and registered for GST and MSME. They decided to keep the company as a proprietorship, with Ravi as the proprietor. On June 26, 2023, they received all the necessary documents, but still faced challenges with equipment and work. These legal steps were crucial in establishing a solid foundation for their business operations.
Despite these hurdles, they persevered. They started getting small labor work, which allowed them to buy machines by taking a loan. Ravi had to leave his job to focus on the business full-time, while Vivek continued part-time and Pankaj changed his job to ensure better financial support. This phase marked a significant turning point in their journey as they began to see the fruits of their labor.
Their efforts started to pay off when they received a significant order from a food company in Pune. This project marked a turning point. They took another loan, arranged raw materials, and began manufacturing. Vivek updated their online profile and reached out to more clients. As their work increased, they needed a larger workspace. Pankaj left his job to join Shailmi Tech full-time and focused on finding more clients. This expansion not only boosted their confidence but also set the stage for future success.
To manage the growing responsibilities, they appointed their youngest brother, Vinay Shrivastav, as the plant manager. The leadership roles were clearly defined: Vivek as the EO / Digital Marketer / Engineer, Ravi as the Founder / Proprietor, and Pankaj as the COO / Purches & Seals Head / Engineer. This clear distribution of responsibilities ensured efficient management and operational excellence.
